Tips to Help You Find a New Church

Finding a church you are comfortable with does not always come in an instant.  At times, you have to visit several churches in order to make your heart feel “settled”.  Thus, before choosing a new church, it is helpful for you to have “church” defined.  What is church for you? Are you looking for a community of fellow believers or a social support network?  Or simply fulfilling a family tradition?

If you consider church as a body of fellow believers in God, then here are some tips for finding a church home:

  1. Begin with faith and prayer – The best place to begin your search is on your knees. If you are looking for more than tradition and socializing, don’t leave God out of the equation.  Ask for His guidance to help you meet with fellow believers.  Then go about making your decision confident that He wants you to find a church home more than you do.
  2. Start searching – This the tedious part as it requires hard work and some time.  It requires thought and determination.  When you are trying to find a new church, it involves asking around, using the internet and search engines, and being willing to try out a few different churches.  It may take a few Sundays visiting a few independent baptist churches.
  3. Take time to heed the call – Don’t rush in making a decision.  Consider and remember that it is a big decision.  Since it is such a heavy decision for you and your family, take your time, weigh your options and seek God’s face and direction through it all.  While you are making your decision, bear in mind that as long as the independent baptist church you are considering is teaching and living God’s Word, there will be no wrong decision.
  4. Difficult choices – The best way to make a choice is to combine the previously mentioned ideas.  In any decision, the way to arrive at the best conclusion is to join prayer and common sense together.  Use what you have learned during your search, along with seeking God through prayer to decide on a baptist church.

If you find that your search for a new church takes you down to a few dead-end, don’t lose hope and be not afraid to turn around.  A good church is too important to your spiritual health and your family’s well being.  So do not make second-rate or light-hearted decision.

Finding an independent baptist church takes time and wisdom.  Seek help from God, from other people, and enjoy the journey.  Enjoy learning new things, visiting churches and denominations for sooner or later, you will not have to do it over again once you find the right church for you.
